AEW Dynamite results, live blog (May 8, 2024): Copeland vs. King for the TNT title (2024)

Here’s a place to check results and comment along with a new episode of AEW Dynamite, airing tonight (May 8) at 8 pm ET on TBS.

This week’s episode comes our way from Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. It will feature the latest build toward AEW’s Double or Nothing PPV in Las Vegas on May 26.

That will include Adam Copeland’s latest TNT title defense against a member of House of Black when he takes on Brody King (while dealing with the effects of Malakai’s mist). AEW World champ Swerve Strickland will be ready for his latest face-to-face meeting with his DoN challenger Christian Cage... and vows that he won’t show up alone this time. Orange Cassidy will also get his hands on the man who blew up Best Friends and ended Chuck Taylor’s career, Trent Beretta. Plus, Kenny Omega makes an “Important Announcement” one week after The Elite took him out.

We’ll also see Mariah May take on Harley Cameron, hear from Serena Deeb one week after she beat May to secure a PPV shot at Women’s World champion Timeless Toni Storm, and a whole lot more.

Come right back here at 8pm ET when the Dynamite live blog kicks off once the show starts on TBS. It will be below this line here.

Enjoy the show!

AEW DYNAMITE RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR MAY 8

In the year of ‘39 assembled here the volunteers, in the days when the lands were few. Here the ship sailed out into the blue and sunny morn, the sweetest sight ever seen, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.

The show opens with Adam Copeland being interviewed backstage.

He says tonight it gets stopped, and his match tonight against Brody King will be no disqualification, and if the House of Black wanted the Rated-R Superstar, tonight they got him.

Thence to the still Elite-centric intro video.

Orange Cassidy vs. Trent Beretta

My cable is all choppy and messed up for the second night running so rather than suffer through two hours and forget about it because of a migraine I’m rebooting the box and will hopefully see y’all in time for the finish to the opener here, Cagesiders.

And we’re back with Orange managing to suplex Trent in the crowd! Back body dropped over the barricade, Don Callis comes to the ring for mysterious Don Callis reasons and we go to break.

Back from commercial, trading forearms in the middle of the ring, throat thrust from Beretta, drawing Cassidy up, blocking Stundog Millionaire, duck under, off the ropes, Orange with a satellite DDT! Trent takes control, piledriver, piledriver, no intention of making a cover, referee Paul Turner checks on Orange and tells Beretta to finish it!

Trent to the corner, charging in, Busaiku Knee and he follows by taking a turnbuckle pad off! Turner admonishes him and puts it back, Orange tears off a turnbuckle pad himself, sidesteps a charge and folds him up...

Orange Cassidy wins by pinfall by taking advantage of an exposed turnbuckle.

Post-match, Trent attacks Orange some more on the floor, taking him down for grounded punches, tearing at his forehead, pulling the steel steps out... PILEDRIVER ON THE STAIRS! Orange recovers and gets a chair, Don Callis backs him off while Kris Statlander tries to talk sense into Trent.

We get in the car with the Young Bucks as they pull into the arena and steal Tony Khan’s parking spot since he won’t be using it.

We get a video package recapping Kenny Omega’s return from last week, and a chaser of “SCAPEGOAT” Jack Perry cutting a promo on him after the show and calling him a coward and saying the Elite and AEW don’t need him anymore.

And so we go to break.

Back from commercial, Kenny Omega cuts a promo from a hospital bed and books Anarchy in the Arena at Double or Nothing— The Elite of the Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada, and Jack Perry against Team AEW of FTR and two men who will reveal themselves sooner than you expect, perhaps even tonight.

Tony Schiavone interviews Serena Deeb on the stage.

She talks about how important wrestling for the title is and how much she respects Toni Storm and why she can’t afford to lose at Double or Nothing, which is that she was on the shelf for fifteen months. She explains in more detail, admitting she had three unprovoked seizures, and it was very scary.

Toni Storm rolls up and says she expected to hear from her challenger and not from a charity case, and she doesn’t give a single solitary sh*t about any of the things she’s been through.

They go face-to-face, Toni tries to pull her in for an attack, and Deeb cold clocks her!

Rocky Romero checks on Orange Cassidy in the trainer’s room and says if he beats Jay White, the two of them and a partner can get a trios title match. He pitches Tomohiro Ishii and Katsuyori Shibata as partners before saying maybe they can even mend the fences and team with Trent again, but that gets Orange to pull the glasses down and give him a hard no and say they’ll figure something out.

Harley Cameron vs. Mariah May

Cameron in control early, seated senton, Saraya prowling around ringside, May turns her around, big double chop in the corner, whip across, charging forearm connects! Off the ropes, hesitation dropkick, Harley knocks her to the floor and we go to break!

Back from commercial, trading strikes, Mariah overwhelming her, off the ropes, Cameron blasts her with a lariat! May off the top, missile dropkick, back and forth into a nearfall, Mariah with a fireman’s carry...

Mariah May wins by pinfall with Mayday.

Post-match, Saraya attacks May and beats her down! MINA SHIRAKAWA MAKES THE SAVE AND WIPES HARLEY OUT WITH AN URAKEN! She leaps into Mariah’s arms but fakes out before the kiss! She wants champagne and they have a drink and embrace.

PAC is interviewed backstage.

He says at this moment he’s not concerned with Death Triangle, and Bullet Club Gold come walking by and Switchblade says Death Triangle is dead and PAC needs to be concerned about what’s next for him after losing to Okada. White says he’s beaten the Rainmaker and maybe he should go after him to add more gold to the Bang Bang Gang’s hoard, but first he has to fight Rocky Romero to teach PAC a thing or two about winning.

We get a House of Black promo on Adam Copeland, and we go to break.

Back from commercial we get a Young Bucks hype reel and they put themselves over.

Shane “Swerve” Strickland makes his entrance and gets on the mic.

He says he’s pissed off and in a fighting mood and shows us footage of the Patriarchy attacking him last week by way of explanation.

He calls Christian Cage out, and Cage comes out with the Patriarchy.

Christian talks sh*t about local sports before talking about the dreadlock he took last week and saying he’s decided that every single week he’s going to take something from Swerve until ultimately he gets what it is that he wants.

After Double or Nothing, when the walls are crashing in and Swerve’s House has been foreclosed on, he’ll still be able to see gold by looking in the mirror and seeing his stupid gold teeth, unless Christian takes those from them now.

Swerve says he told his ass he wasn’t coming alone, and Bishop Kaun, Toa Liona, and Brian Cage slide in the ring with him! Shane gets a timely Kendrick/Drake shot in there, saying he wants Christian to slide in and get his ass whooped and it wouldn’t even be the first time somebody from the west coast whipped a deadbeat from Toronto.

But no, that’d put him in an uncomfortable position, and we all know when Christian is put in an uncomfortable postion, he says “I Quit.”

Cage acts scared for a beat but Brian Cage attacks Swerve from behind! The rest of the Mogul Embassy joins in! Brian chucks Swerve over the ropes like a sack of potatoes, they beat Strickland down and set him up on the steps over the announce desk... POWERBOMB THROUGH THE ANNOUNCE DESK!

The Patriarchy come past the Bucks in Gorilla and they congratulate Cage on his beatdown and he says it’s the start of a good working relationship.

Willow Nightingale is interviewed backstage.

Physically she’s not going great, but emotionally and spiritually you can’t wipe the smile off her face, and of course she’s ready for Double or Nothing. But the real question is “is Mercedes Mone ready for her?” because she’s been on the shelf for a year while Willow has gotten accolade after accolade and in a wrestling match, she’s going to win.

“Switchblade” Jay White vs. Rocky Romero

White in control early and we go to break!

Back from commercial, Romero with a boot up, DDT out of the ropes, getting fired up, charging in, White with a boot up, victory roll pin, Jay kicks out! Jumping knee, hard right, Shiranui countered, Blade Runner blocked, backslide... SO CLOSE!

Black Magic, running Shiranui... STILL NO! Jay drops him in on his head, follows it up...

Jay White wins by pinfall with Blade Runner.

Post-match, Bang Bang Gang beat Rocky down and PAC comes down! Bullet Club run away.

We get a Samoa Joe training montage about the way a warrior is driven by the fear of an opponent he can’t surmount, but he isn’t the warrior that fears, he is the warrior that these men fear in the first place.

And so we go to break.

Harlon Abbott & Mo Jabari vs. the Learning Tree (“Big” Bill Morrissey & Chris Jericho)

Jabari and Jericho to start, cool fakeout hip toss into a drop toehold from the local and Chris tag sout. Mo bravely leads with a chop but Big Bill cuts him off and the match starts to go like you’d expect...

The Learning Tree win by pinfall with a chokeslam from “Big” Bill Morrissey.

Post-match, Jericho cuts a promo and makes some kind of mistake the locals get upset about and he apologizes again before saying he’d be on Dynamite two hours straight if he could. He talks about how we haven’t seen HOOK since he essentially hit himself in the face with a baseball bat but he should take as long as he likes to consider the lessons taught him by the Learning Tree.

Tony Schiavone slides into the ring to inform us that HOOK will be back next Wednesday on Dynamite. Jericho says we’ll all celebrate together, and we go to break.

Adam Copeland (c) vs. Brody King (AEW TNT Championship No Disqualification Match)

Collar and elbow, King with a side headlock, Copeland slips away, charging in, caught with a kick from the apron, and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Brody with a freight train crossbody on the floor but Copeland rolls out of the way and he crashes into the barricade! Chairs in play, walloping King, fighting to the apron, Adam clawing his face, front kick... IMPALER ON THE APRON INTO A CHAIR!

Brody busted open, Copeland stomps a crossbar out of a chair and wedges it in the corner after! King cuts him off wtih a lariat, pouring blood from his forehead, and we go to break!

Back from commercial, out of the corner, trading boots, both men down and out! Trading elbows on their knees and to their feet, King drops him and follows it with a cannonball! Up for the powerbomb, Copeland slips out, Edgecution connects! On the apron, Adam with a Death Valley Driver!

Spear through the ropes and through a table follows! Back in the ring...

Adam Copeland wins by pinfall with a spear, retaining the AEW TNT Championship.

Post-match, Brody attacks Copeland and Kyle O’Reilly makes the save!

Mercedes Mone is interviewed backstage looking like bisexual ice cream.

She talks about how she’s going to be promoting AEW at various sporting events and she’ll be in the gym whenever she isn’t, and she’ll be ready for Willow Nightingale at Double or Nothing. She lost a year of her career she can never get back.

Adam Copeland and Kyle O’Reilly are interviewed backstage.

Copeland thanks KOR for having his back and Kyle asks him for a favor at Collision— he wants a title match in his home town. Adam agrees to give him a title shot in Vancouver!

The Elite make their entrance.

The Young Bucks say the show doesn’t end until they say it’s over, and they asked for overrun to share their important message.

First on their agenda, in this terrible country of Canada, Kazuchika Okada has a note for Kenny Omega. Okada calls Kenny out and tells him to get well soon. Speaking of unwell people, Matthew tells Tony Khan he’s the best boss he ever worked for and he just wishes he got out of his own way and saw that they were trying to make AEW a better place.

Nicholas Jackson accepts the challenge for Anarchy in the Arena and says they run the damn show.

Enter FTR.

Dax Harwood says after a little bit of convincing they found a couple guys with big enough balls to fight the Elite— EDDIE KINGSTON IS HERE! AND SO IS THE AMERICAN DRAGON BRYAN DANIELSON! TEAM AEW IS COMPLETE!

They square up with the Elite and attack over the objections of Matthew Jackson! Referees and agents swarm to break them up!

That’s the show, folks!
