What speed should I shift my Ninja 500? ›

If you want to move fast, then you must shift around 8-9k RPM. For normal riding, I would say shifting around 5 to 6k RPM is fine. I maintain the bike at at least 4k RPM at all times when moving slow, which means shifting into a lower gear. This engine does not like to be lugged, as there is little torque down low.
