KTM 990 Super Duke Bike Overview

Introduced in 2005, the KTM 990 Super Duke has a fuel capacity of 17.5 litres, top speed of a staggering 151mph, maximum torque of 73 ft-lb and 120bhp. Despite the power, this bike is extremely responsive and easy to control, with brilliant WP suspension and quality brakes.

Widely varying competition and use cases in mind, KTM decided to build an almost all-new bike for 2024. In fact, the 990 Duke is 96 percent new compared to the 890 Duke R. It's physically larger, yes, but also has a more rigid chassis, expansive electronics package, and a more aggressive look.

The bike is powered by the LC8 liquid cooled, four-stroke, DOHC 999 cc 75° V-twin engine, producing around 78 kW (105 hp). It is capable of a top speed of around 123 mph (198 km/h). The engine was evolved from the 950 Adventure.

In fact, the super sport KTM RC 390 can touch speeds of 170 kmph and costs INR 2.78 lakhs.

KTM's cornering 'Supermoto' ABS is standard, and new front disc carriers save 500g per side to reduce unsprung and rotating mass. All-in, with a full tank of fuel, the 990 Duke comes in at 190kg. Without fuel, the weight is 179kg.

This powerhouse is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The acceleration is terrific and the bike can reach a top speed of 240 to 250 kilometers an hour.

We've never had qualms with the Super Duke's throttle response or power delivery, any extra gains here will be icing on the cake. Chassis-wise, the Super Duke is still a handful. It's nimble and flicks into corners with ease, but is on edge when ridden aggressively.

In general the Adventure is a reliable bike, but it does have a few well known quirks that you need to keep on top of. The clutch slave cylinder is a weak point on the 950 and its seal often fails, causing fluid to leak out. A few 990s have also suffered from this issue.
